On March 29, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "National Agency for the Development of Innovations "QazInnovations" Sanat Zholdyhan made a working visit to the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Together with Akim of Almaty region Marat Sultangaziev and the top management of akimats, they got acquainted with the scientific and production activities of this leading scientific organization of the country in the nuclear industry, visited the only stationary research reactor in Kazakhstan, the VVR-K, a storage facility for spent ionizing radiation sources. We also witnessed the solemn launch event with the launch of the VVR-K research reactor. Such an important moment was entrusted to the akim of the Almaty region, Marat Sultangaziev.
The working visit began with an introductory presentation by Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev on the scientific and technical activities of the Institute. The Director General of the Institute told about the history of the Institute's creation, the main 11 basic electrophysical installations, important areas of the Institute's activities, such as the development and application of nuclear and radiation technologies, the production of radioisotope products for medicine and industry, etc., about the publication achievements of researchers. Sayabek Sakhiyev said that the Institute has been ranked first among the research institutes of the Republic of Kazakhstan in terms of the number of published works in the Web of Science database for 5 years.
During his speech, the Director General noted that the Institute has extensive experience in training personnel for the nuclear industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, while emphasizing that the Institute has all the necessary infrastructure for training specialists for nuclear power plants, in particular, a research stationary reactor, a critical stand, accelerators of various types. There are also three training centers on the basis of the Institute with the support of the IAEA, whose activities are to train personnel for the nuclear industry. As part of the familiarization with the activities of the Institute, they visited a storage facility designed for long-term storage of spent gamma radiation sources and neutron radiation sources. This storage facility was put into operation in 2022 and consists of 12 SILO-type cells. They also got acquainted with the technical characteristics of the research reactor.
